Frequently Asked Questions
Everything about downloads, printing, sizing, licensing, and refunds. Still stuck? Message us.
How do I receive my pattern after purchase?
Your files are available instantly. Right after checkout, Etsy shows you a download link (and emails it to you). You can also find it anytime under You → Purchases and reviews → Download Files. Nothing is shipped — this is a digital product.
How long can I access my files?
Forever. Your download link stays in your Etsy account under Purchases and reviews, so you can re-download any time — if a file gets lost, a computer dies, or you want another size later, just grab it again. We also recommend saving a backup copy on your own drive or cloud storage.
What exactly is included in the download?
Every pattern includes:
- Layered PDF in A4, US Letter, and A0 (copy shop) — print only your size
- DXF file for projector cutting or cutting machines
- Printing instructions with a clear assembly map and triangle registration marks
- Illustrated sewing guide and size chart
What sizes do your patterns come in?
XS to 5XL. The PDF is layered, so you can print just your size — no more taping pages you don't need.
What if I'm between sizes?
Pick the size that matches your most important measurement for that garment (usually bust for tops, waist for corset belts and trousers, hips for skirts). Our size charts include finished garment measurements, so compare those to a garment you already own and love the fit of. If you're between sizes across the board, sizing up is usually the safer call — it's easier to take in than to let out. Still unsure? Message us with your measurements and we'll help you choose.
Is seam allowance included?
Yes. Seam allowance is already included in every pattern piece, so you cut exactly on the lines.
What skill level do I need?
Most patterns suit a confident beginner to intermediate sewist. Each listing notes its difficulty, and the sewing guide walks you through every step.
What fabric and notions do I need?
Every listing includes a materials guide with recommended fabrics and notions. Many of our designs are drafted for faux leather, denim, canvas, and costume fabrics.
Can I print at home?
Yes — print the A4 or US Letter file at 100% / “Actual size,” then join the pages using the assembly map and triangle registration marks. Or take the A0 file to a copy shop for one big sheet. Our printing guide walks through it step by step.
Should I print at home or use a copy shop?
Both work — it depends on the pattern and your patience. Home printing (A4/Letter) is free and fine for smaller patterns like belts and vests. For big pieces with many pages (cloaks, jackets), the A0 copy-shop file saves you an hour of taping and usually costs just a few dollars at any print shop. Ask for black-and-white A0 at 100% scale. Our printing guide covers both routes.
How do layered PDFs work?
All our sizes live in one PDF file as separate layers. Open the file in Adobe Acrobat Reader (free, on computer) or the Xodo app (free, on phone/tablet), open the layers panel, and uncheck every size except yours. Then print — you'll get clean pages with only your size's lines, and often far fewer pages to tape together.
Can I use a projector instead of printing?
Yes. Every pattern includes a DXF file alongside the PDFs, which works with projector cutting setups and cutting machines. Calibrate your projector to the file's test square or known measurements first, just like you would with a print.
My printed pages don't line up — what should I check?
First, confirm your printer is set to 100% scale (“Actual size,” not “Fit to page”). Measure the printed test square — if it matches, you're good. Then align pages using the triangle registration marks and the assembly map.
Do you ship anything physical?
No — everything we sell is digital. You get PDF and DXF files by instant download; nothing arrives in the mail. That also means no shipping fees and no waiting.
What language are the instructions in?
English. The sewing guides use clear step-by-step instructions with illustrations for every construction step, so they're easy to follow even if English isn't your first language.
What do I need to open and use the files?
Just a free PDF reader (Adobe Acrobat Reader on computer, or the Xodo app on phone/tablet) for the pattern and printing guide. For the DXF cutting file you'll need projector software or a cutting machine that reads DXF. To sew, you'll need the fabric and notions listed in each pattern's materials guide — see our recommended tools & supplies if you're stocking up.
Can I sell finished garments I make from your patterns?
You may sew finished garments from our patterns for yourself and as gifts. If you'd like to sell finished garments commercially, please message us about commercial licensing — we'll work something out. The pattern files themselves may never be shared, resold, or redistributed.
Can I share the pattern files with a friend?
No. Files are licensed to the buyer for personal use. Please don't share, resell, or upload them anywhere.
What's your refund policy on digital items?
Because files are available instantly, all sales are final. But if your files arrive corrupted, incomplete, or won't download, message us and we'll replace them or refund you — whichever you prefer.
Do you earn commission on the products you recommend?
Yes — some links on our recommended tools & supplies page are affiliate links. If you buy through them, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. It helps keep the tutorials free, and we only recommend tools we'd use at our own cutting table.
Do you make custom patterns?
Yes! See our Custom Sewing Pattern listing: share your idea or sketch, and we'll draft a bespoke made-to-order pattern for you in PDF + DXF.
I need help during my sew — can I ask questions?
Absolutely. Message us through Etsy Messages — our sewing team answers 7 days a week.
